A new kind of singles event is bouncing onto the social calendar this August, blending the fast-growing sport of pickleball with a playful twist on matchmaking. Singles in a Pickle: Materialists Edition is set to take place on Saturday, 23 August 2025, from 3pm to 6pm at The Kitch’n Club, which serves as the official venue partner. Presented by Sony Pictures Releasing International’s Materialists in collaboration with Take The Leap, the event invites singles to meet through rotating rounds of mixed doubles pickleball, paired with icebreaker games and lighthearted competition.
The event is described as a casual yet energetic way for attendees to connect, whether through a winning rally or a shared laugh between games. Participants will rotate partners (mixed doubles) throughout the afternoon, encouraging spontaneous interaction in a relaxed setting. In the lead-up to the event, Materialists will be running a movie ticket giveaway, adding to the anticipation. The initiative aims to engage the community and build momentum ahead of the matchmaking social. The event has also drawn support from major media outlets, with HITZ, MIX & LITE signed on as official media partners.
While pickleball matchmaking has been gaining some level of traction worldwide, its use as a conduit for finding romantic connections is still relatively new in Malaysia. Singles in a Pickle taps into that novelty, offering a more active alternative to typical dating events. With spots expected to fill up fast, organisers encourage interested participants to sign up early.
