All Hail the King of the Monsters: Godzilla Takes on Kuala Lumpur with EQ

When the King of Monsters roars, the world listens — and this time, that roar echoed across the Kuala Lumpur skyline. In an unexpected and cinematic crossover, Godzilla has made its Southeast Asian debut through a creative collaboration between EQ Kuala Lumpur and TOHO Co., Ltd., the legendary studio behind the monster’s iconic film franchise.

In a special video marking Godzilla’s 70th anniversary, the colossal creature storms through Malaysia’s capital, its shadow sweeping past the glittering Petronas Twin Towers. And right beside them, another familiar figure stands tall — EQ, illuminated proudly as the monster passes into view. The moment is fleeting but unforgettable, merging Malaysian modernity with Japanese movie magic.

That cameo has now inspired a playful partnership between EQ and TOHO. To mark the occasion, EQ has unveiled a limited-edition line of “Happy 70th Anniversary” collectibles — including a bespoke T-shirt and collectible luggage stickers — created as keepsakes for select guests and friends of the hotel.

Meanwhile, at EQ’s award-winning rooftop bar Sky51, the celebration continues sky-high with the debut of a new signature cocktail: “King of Monsters.” Available in both alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions, the drink pays tribute to Godzilla’s enduring cinematic legacy — bold, dramatic, and just a little bit unstoppable.

“We were absolutely delighted to see the world-famous monster romping through Kuala Lumpur and passing by EQ in TOHO Corporation’s commemorative video,” said Donald Lim, Chief Executive Officer of Equatorial Group. “This unique cameo comes at a time when EQ was recently listed at #22 on Travel + Leisure’s 2025 list of Top 100 Hotels in the World — and we’re proud to be the only Malaysian property to make that list. Along with this pop culture moment, we decided to have some fun and create a few souvenirs.”
