Digger Trailer: Tom Cruise Stars in Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s Apocalyptic Thriller

Tom Cruise is back — and this time, the fate of humanity may be his fault. Warner Bros. Pictures has unveiled the first trailer for Digger, the new original film from Oscar-winning filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu, putting Cruise at the centre of a mysterious, high-stakes disaster thriller.

Cruise plays the world’s most powerful man, who embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s saviour before the catastrophe he has unleashed destroys everything. The trailer keeps the specifics of that catastrophe deliberately close to the vest, instead foregrounding a character racing against an increasingly dire clock — and potentially against the consequences of his own ambition.

The film marks Iñárritu’s latest original feature and reunites the director with several of his frequent collaborators. Oscar winner Emmanuel Lubezki serves as cinematographer, while Oscar winner Stephen Mirrione joins Conor O’Neill as editor. The behind-the-camera team also includes Oscar-winning production designer Dennis Gassner, Oscar-nominated costume designer Jacqueline West, Oscar-winning makeup and hair designer Alessandro Bertolazzi, Oscar-winning prosthetic makeup designer Kazu Hiro and composer Cosmo Sheldrake.

Iñárritu directed from a screenplay by Iñárritu, Oscar winners Alexander Dinelaris and Nicolás Giacobone, and Sabina Berman, based on a story by Berman, Iñárritu and Jez Butterworth.
