It’s official, Rosario Dawson has joined season 2 of The Mandalorian as fan favourite character, Ahsoka Tano.
According to Film, which was then confirmed by Variety, The Mandalorian’s sophomore season will mark the character’s first appearance in live-action. Ahsoka is Anakin Skywalker’s Jedi padawan apprentice who made her debut in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The Chosen One’s apprentice is one of the central characters in the animated Star Wars series, which was voiced by Ashley Eckstein across all seven seasons of The Clone Wars (the final season is currently airing on Disney Plus).
When Ahsoka made her first appearance back in 2008, a majority of the fanbase aired their disdain towards the character. Since then, she has gone from a character that was almost unanimously hated to one of the most beloved character in all of Star Wars. Following her appearance in The Clone Wars and Rebels, Ahsoka has since appeared in comics, her own novel, and even a voice Rey hears at the end of The Rise of Skywalker.
In 2017, a fan tweeted at Rosario Dawson, prompting her to appear in a Star Wars movie as Ahsoka, and the actress responded, “Ummmm… yes please?! #AhsokaLives”. This tweet sent groups of fans into frenzy, campaigning for her to play the fan favourite. The Daredevil star was later asked about the fan campaign while appearing on Good Morning America, and she commented that “It would be amazing!”
