The wonder of Japanese cinema returns to Malaysian screens this year as GSC International Screens, in collaboration with The Japan Foundation, announces the highly anticipated Japanese Film Festival (JFF) 2025. Running from 10 September to 19 October at selected GSC cinemas nationwide, JFF 2025 promises to be bigger, bolder, and brighter than ever.
Continuing its mission to celebrate cultural diversity and foster global connections through the power of film, GSC International Screens will once again bring Malaysian audiences a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in Japan’s rich cinematic tradition. The curated lineup highlights a wide spectrum of Japanese storytelling, offering something for every type of filmgoer, from heartfelt dramas to quirky comedies and thought-provoking narratives.

One of the standout titles at JFF 2025 is The Solitary Gourmet, a whole film that illustrates the heart of everyday Japan through its deep connection with food and culture. A cinematic adaptation (and continuation) of the long-running TV series and manga, the movie follows Gorō Inogashira (Yutaka Matsushige), a travelling salesman known for his love of local cuisine. As he journeys across Japan (and beyond), his simple meals turn into extraordinary adventures. In this latest entry, Inogashira is sent abroad on business, where he’s tasked with uncovering the ingredients behind a mysterious soup no one has heard of, leading him on a flavourful quest filled with surprises and cultural discoveries.
The Solitary Gourmet will be screening at selected GSC locations beginning 10 September. Tickets for the Japanese Film Festival 2025 are affordably priced at RM10.00, while The Solitary Gourmet will be sold at prevailing ticket prices.
